Canadians can finally rejoice! The highly anticipated, all-electric Volkswagen ID.Buzz is set to hit our roads later this year. This modern take on the beloved camper van has been a long time coming, first teased in 2017, but the wait seems worth it.
The ID.Buzz stays true to its iconic roots while embracing modern design and technology. It may be a bit chunkier and wider than its predecessor, but its undeniable charm remains intact.
While it comes with a higher price tag, starting at $77,495 for the rear-wheel-drive model, it offers 282 horsepower, a 91-kilowatt-hour battery, and an impressive 377 kilometers of range. Surprisingly, the all-wheel-drive 4Motion version with 335 horsepower is only slightly more expensive, sacrificing a mere 4 kilometers of range. Considering Canada's wintery conditions, the AWD option might be the more popular choice.
All Canadian ID.Buzz models will come equipped with three rows of seats, power-sliding rear doors, and a modern twist on the classic sliding windows. A large 12.9-inch infotainment display, wireless phone charging, and Volkswagen's IQ.DRIVE driver assistance technology are also standard features.
Initially, the ID.Buzz will only be available in a limited "1st Edition" trim, adding to the base price but including special badging, heritage-inspired floor mats, and seven-passenger seating. Luxury features like heated and ventilated front seats, a premium Harman Kardon sound system, and numerous USB-C ports further enhance the experience. The AWD version of the 1st Edition even offers optional captain's chairs and an electrochromic panoramic roof.
While Volkswagen Canada hasn't announced a specific release date, expect to see the ID.Buzz in dealerships by the end of the year. It's time to get excited about the return of the iconic bus, now reimagined for a sustainable future!
